Ballyea is a large circular earthen enclosure, about sixty metres across, with a modern bungalow built directly on top of its remains. The east side was levelled out before 1943, leaving a flat platform where a bank once stood. People may have lived there, farmed around it, or simply passed it by until the house appeared. What is certain is that the ground still holds the shape of a circle, even if the wall has gone.

Enclosure described in 1943 as following; 'About one-third of the east side of this monument has been levelled out. It consists of a platform around the edge of which there was a bank. A fosse is not visible. The overall diameter is 200' [61m] (O'Kelly 1942-3, 179). A modern bungalow standing on the site of the enclosure is visible today on Digital Globe aerial photographs.
