Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballycroneen West

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts in Ballycroneen West reduced to faint traces by 1940, their exact locations lost to time and terrain. Two earthen rings once shaped the land, perhaps marking dwellings, boundaries, or ritual spaces for people long gone. What remains is absence made visible: a suggestion of circles beneath grass, soil, or memory. The land keeps its shape even when human knowledge fades, waiting for patience or luck to reveal what it hides.
Power (1940, 23) refers to two ringforts in this townland of which 'only faint traces' remained in his time. Exact locations not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
