Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballintobeenig

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are earthen ringforts, human-made and ancient. The name is a later story told over forgotten facts. In Ballintobeenig the ground still holds that shape: a circle of soil, perhaps a bank, perhaps a ditch, marking a home, a boundary or a place of ownership from before written memory. People may have lived there, herded there, hidden there or stopped trusting the land when they forgot why the circle existed.
