Ballinglanna holds a broad earthen ring on rising land, its stone-faced entrance opening west toward the wide countryside. The bank still stands three metres high around a circular space large enough for several lives to have turned, breathed and watched the horizon. It is not a distant ruin but a shaped place where human hands made a boundary strong enough to be remembered long after the names faded.

Internal diameter 31.4m N-S, 29.6m E-W This univallate ringfort is situated in a corner of a field and its E side is cut by a fieldbank running N-S. A fieldbank also runs in an E-W direction to the N and another slightly touches the fort to the WSW. This site is situated on rising land and has an extensive view of the surrounding countryside. It consists of a circular area enclosed by an earth and stone bank 5m wide at the base. The enclosing bank is well defined, though somewhat overgrown, and it rises to a maximum of 3m above the surrounding land and 1.8m above the interior. The interior is at a slightly higher level than the surrounding land, and the entrance would appear to lie to the W where it is 2.8m wide; it was stone faced. For 10m to the N of the entrance the bank has been stone faced both internally and externally, and S of the entrance the bank has also been stone faced both internally and externally for 7.4m.
