Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballincrossig, tullaghna

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

An unknown hand dug a circular fort in Tullaghna before human memory began. It appeared on maps in 1841 and 1916, resisted every claim of ownership, and vanished without warning. The land kept its shape long enough to be seen, then took it back.
This circular enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 and 1916 OS maps and lies NE of KE015-022----. A slight trace of a crop mark can be picked up on the Geological Survey of Ireland aerial photographs (1974), but no surface trace survives today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 522. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
