Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballaghabawbeg

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballaghabawbeg is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballaghabawbeg, County Roscommon, Ireland. The circular enclosure measures about twenty-five metres across and joins an east-west field bank on its northern side. It sits at the bottom of a northeast-facing slope but disappears into reclaimed pasture at ground level. Aerial photography reveals the earthen bank and confirms the site as a rath.
Visible as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) defined by an earthen bank and attached to an E-W field bank at N on aerial photograph (OSAP/4200). Situated at the bottom of a NE-facing slope, it is not visible at ground level in reclaimed pasture, but it is undoubtedly a rath. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
