No visible fortification appears at Baile Ristín today, though local tradition still credits the hidden fort with swallowing a chattering woman who mocked its absence. The story warns that quiet places do not stop seeing simply because they stop answering.

Lios Clochán na Lobhar: This site has been described as a circular fort 'about 1 chain (20m) in diameter and 5 feet (1.5m) high composed of earth and stone' (OSNB Garfinny, 33). The extant remains consist of a densely overgrown stony mound, measuring c. 20m NW-SE and c. 11m NE-SW, in which the outline of one or possibly 2 hut-sites can be traced. At the NW end of the mound, a roughly circular area, 7.4m x 6.6m, is enclosed by defaced and partly collapsed walling up to 2m high externally and 1m internally. An entrance gap at SE leads to a 2nd possible hut. This latter consists of a mound of stone and earth, c. 1 to 1.5m high, with a central depression measuring 4m x 3m. These may have been a pair of conjoined clochauns, but some of the mound material may be the debris from a destroyed ringfort. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
