Aughrim Beg holds a forgotten ring where human hands shaped earth into a circle before fairy tales replaced its history. The bank still stands eighty centimetres high at its strongest point, though grass and field stones have swallowed the entrance and much of the ditch. It sits on a drumlin slope in County Monaghan, large enough to contain a household yet small enough to disappear into legend. What is certain is the shape: a deliberate circle, built to keep something out or hold something in, now resting beneath layers of forgetting.

Located towards the bottom of the SE-facing slope of a NW-SE drumlin ridge. This is an overgrown subcircular area (dims 36m N-S; 32m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (at NW: Wth of base 5.5m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.6m) with a fosse obscured by field stones (Wth c. 2m; D 0.3m) and a slight outer bank (Wth c. 2m; ext. H 0.2m) W-NW. The bank is incorporated into a field bank N-SE, but the original entrance is not identified.
