What is recorded here
No visible ringfort remains in Aughinish West, but a 20-metre embanked circle was drawn there in 1841 before the land was levelled. The flat field has taken back the fort, leaving only the memory of a boundary between human life and fairy danger. What was built there may have been a home, a warning or a trap for visitors who came uninvited.
In level terrain. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) on 1841 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected.
