What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Artiteige, County Cork. A shallow circular scar in a north-facing terrace, levelled but still slightly raised, with a faint dip outside its edge. The shape survives in the field, not on a page. People may have lived inside it, or excluded others from it, or simply marked the boundary between ordinary ground and remembered ground. The earth keeps the circle even when the story has thinned.
On natural terrace in N-facing slope. Levelled but slight rise with slight dip outside, enclosing circular area, visible in field.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
