Ardconnell’s fairy fort is a broad earthen ring, forty-two metres across, with a hidden drystone tunnel emerging from a stone outcrop inside. The bank still rises nearly two metres above the ground, enclosing depressions and a lone upright stone as if marking rooms, a threshold, or a forgotten warning. People may have lived, hidden, or worshipped there before fields cut through its southern edge, but the tunnel still points northeast like an invitation into darkness.

Internal diameter 42m N-S, c. 40m E-W This univallate rath is cut on its S to W side by a fieldbank. It consists of a sub-circular area enclosed by an earth and stone bank. The N to W sector of the bank has been levelled but elsewhere it is on average 5m wide at the base and rises to a maximum of 1.8m above the external ground level and 1.6m above the interior. The interior is at a slightly higher level than the surrounding land. In the NW sector of the interior is a depression 6.6m x 9m; c 4m to the SW is an outcrop of stone. In the E sector of this outcrop a possible entrance to a Man-made underground passage can be noticed. The sides of the Man-made underground passage tunnel are of drystone walling and the tunnel would appear to be travelling in a N to NE direction. In the NE sector there is another depression, 4.4m x 8.8m, and c 12m NNW of this lies a 5.8m x 9m depression. Contained within the enclosing bank to the E is a stone upright which sits in the bank, .4m wide x .7m high. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’.
