Lisduff/An Lios Dubh: A roughly circular univallate rath situated about 150m N of KE044-041----, on level waste ground at the E side of a road. The earthen enclosing bank survives for most of the circumference, but the external fosse is not discernible along the E sector. The fosse reaches a maximum depth of 1m at SW, but has been largely back-filled elsewhere; it is 2.75m wide. The bank is a maximum of 2.25m high externally and 1.75m high internally. Its SW half is revetted internally with drystone masonry. This latter feature may continue along the N sector but this is obscured by dense vegetation. In the NE sector, the bank has been replaced by a modern stone wall which respects the original outline of the enclosure. The entrance at SE is probably original; it is 3.25m wide. Other gaps in the bank are probably secondary.
The grass-grown foundations of a circular hut site, 6.5m in diameter, occupy the centre of the enclosure. Some earthfast boulders, near the W edge of the interior, may mark the site of a 2nd hut.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 452. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
