An Bóthar Buí and elsewhere, people called these forts fairy forts because they refused to explain themselves like human buildings should. This is not a small mound or a decorative heap. It is a large circular earthwork with a real boundary, an entrance gap and an interior wide enough for human life. The fairies may be fiction, but the scale and shape belong to people. Build or inhabit that circle and the mystery loses its advantage.

Internal diam. 36m This circular univallate rath lies on a gentle N facing slope directly behind Burnham farm. The earthen enclosing bank is a maximum of 3.5m high externally and 1.5m high internally, and some drystone facing survives along its inner flank. A 3m wide gap at S appears to mark the location of the original entrance and other less well-defined breaks appear to be secondary. A laneway skirts the outer edge of the bank along the W sector. A tree plantation now occupies the interior, and a low rectangular cairn of small stones lies a little to NW of the entrance. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
