Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Aille (leitrim By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

A 25-metre earthen ring in low-lying pastureland, its bank broken by gaps that admit cattle, rain and forgetting. It is a fairy fort in local naming, human-made in shape, old enough to lose its maker and young enough to still hold a shadow at dusk. What is missing has not stopped the circle existing; the gaps may be the point, inviting entry rather than refusing it.
In low-lying pastureland. Poorly preserved circular rath (diam c. 25m) defined by a bank which is breached by numerous gaps. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 12 October 2016
