Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ahimma

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Ahimma, County Kerry. C. Toal’s North Kerry Archaeological Survey numbered it 206 and described a possible univallate rath. Both OS map editions still mark it, yet no surface trace remains visible. The fort has either sunk beneath turf, been levelled by fields, or withdrawn into the kind of Kerry ground that keeps its shapes from strangers.
This possible univallate rath appears on both editions of the OS maps, but no surface trace can be seen today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 206. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
