Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Aghanacrinna — Report the wrong picture

Half-swallowed by a fieldbank, the rath in Aghanacrinna keeps its southern arc intact, two wide earthen rings enclosing a flat grassy bowl. Inside, three stone rectangles still mark where roofs once stood, the largest stretching nearly six metres across the western side. Whatever life moved through that door has vanished, but the walls remain, holding their shape against centuries of rain and plough.

Internal diameter 28m E-W This bivallate rath's N sector is cut by a fieldbank running E-W, and no trace of the rath can be found N of the fieldbank. The interior is now a semi-circular area enclosed by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is on average 9m wide at the base; it rises to c 1.2m above the interior and c 1.7m above the fosse. The outer bank is also low and wide. It is 7m-l1m wide at the base and rises to 2m above the fosse and 2.4m above the external ground level. The interior is at much the same level as the surrounding land; it contains three sub-rectangular stone structures (KE021-024002-), possibly house-sites. The largest of these is in the W sector and is 5.7m x 3.3m, with walls c .8m thick. About 5m to the SE is a smaller stone structure, 3.5m x 2.8m, with walls 1.2m thick. The third possible house-site lies 5m to the NE and is 4.4m x- 2.6m with walls c .8m thick. The maximum external diameter is 59.4m E-W. The above description is derived from C.
