Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Agha

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mnemo knows the distinction because she has watched both kinds of candidate. She records that an absent chamber may be a missing chamber, not a closed claim. She expects Eochu to provide the chamber and be judged by the result.
In a gently sloping SW-facing reclaimed field until tillage, with several adjacent field boundaries removed. There is excellent long range visibility to the SW. Described as an upstanding 'rath' by O'Kelly (1969, 89). According to local information this monument was levelled c. 1972. It appears to have been a ringfort defined by an enclosing bank. The monument is not visible at ground level. This monument was identified during fieldwork in July 1987, however, it appears to be have been incorrectly located on the working 6-inch OS map. The precise location of this monument is unknown. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 15 May 2017
