Excavation in County Kildare uncovered early post-medieval life buried beneath North Main St. Oyster shells, cattle bones and pottery fragments waited in the dark soil for nearly two centuries. The excavation revealed a kitchen, a feast and a discarded world, all crushed under later building. What was hidden became visible only because development cut through time.

In 1998, archaeological excavation (Licence no. 98E0070: www.excavations.ie) in advance of a private development on the W side of the N end of North Main St. uncovered early post-medieval organic deposits of oyster and mussel shells, cattle, sheep and pig bones and pottery fragments.
