Excavation for the N18/N19 Road Scheme in County Clare uncovered a cobbled drainage channel buried beneath stone, clay and animal bone. The site also contained post-holes, pits, medieval pottery sherds, bronze pins, rotary quern fragments and a decorated bone comb. These remains suggest a busy domestic or working place where people ate, crafted and maintained a watercourse before the road consumed the memory of the ground.

Monitoring in advance of the development of the N18/N19 Road Scheme (Licence no. 98E0338) revealed five areas of activity. The main concentration consisted mainly of a series of post-holes and pits. A cobbled area overlay a small drainage channel and was subsequently covered by midden material consisting of stone, clay and animal bone. Finds included bone cylinders, fragments of a decorated bone comb, sherds of medieval pottery, bronze pins, fragments of rotary querns and a fragment of a possible decorated bone mount with rivet-hole.
