Patrick Street, Kilkenny: forty medieval pits, a fence-line and a curvilinear feature within a former burgage plot, excavated by Jacinta Kiely and Bruce Sutton, still partly preserved beneath later post-medieval pits and working surfaces. The Hightown did not appear fully formed; it accumulated in shallow cuts, refilled edges and repeated repairs, each generation trusting the last to hold. What looks like clutter is memory, layered and impatient, waiting for someone careful enough to distinguish one age of hands from the next.

Forty medieval pits, a fence-line and curvilinear feature excavated in a series of investigations by Jacinta Kiely and Bruce Sutton within a former burgage plot (99E0757 and 06E0230) at 11 Patrick Street, on the N side of the Hightown of Kilkenny (Kiely 2000, 147-8; 2008, unpublished; 2009, 273; 2010, 261-2; Sutton and Johnston 2007, unpublished; Sutton 2008, 200-201).
