Excavation

Excavation, miscellaneous

What is recorded here

On a small patch of dry land in a marginal poorly drained area. Excavated in 2007 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road scheme (Licence no. E3863). A large pit filled with burnt stones and charcoal-enriched soil. A second smaller pit truncated it. There was no evidence of burnt material outside the pit. A sample of ash charcoal from the pit fill was sent for analysis and returned a date of 2292–2143 cal BC (UBA 12230). (Elliot 2010, 233, no. 876; Elliot and Coughlan 2011) Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 6 November 2013
