What is recorded here

Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Ballinclay 1 (Hardy et al. 2010, 38-9). It is situated on a S-facing slope and was completely excavated (E4179) by B. Sutton when a single pit (dims 1.9m x 1.7m; D 0.13m) with burning of its base was recorded. It was filled with a layer of charcoal and silt covered by a layer of silty clay with charcoal flecks. The primary fill produced a radiocarbon date of cal. AD 673-852. The unrelated fulacht fia (WX011-070----) is c. 150m to the SSE. (Hull 2012; Sutton 2013) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upoad: 26 November, 2013
