Carn-Beg in County Antrim holds an enclosure and underground passage so old its purpose still evades certainty. The chamber may have been a dwelling, a temple or a trap for the unwary, but stone does not explain itself. People built it, entered it and left it behind. What they feared or cherished remains buried beneath the hill.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as ENCLOSURE (rath?) & Man-made underground passage. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.; UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
