What is recorded here

Enclosure in Tober is a roughly oval stone bank, about thirty-eight metres long, set on a limestone ridge above Lough Narath in County Donegal. A property wall now cuts across its west end, and two other enclosures lie within a few hundred metres to the southwest. The bank is low, moss-covered and partly hidden, but it still marks a deliberate boundary on open ground where water seeps up through karst and marsh collects in the basin beyond.
In rough pasture, on the broad, gently undulating top of a limestone ridge. Immediately to S–SW of the enclosure, the ground dips into a shallow ESE-WNW depression of damp ground which appears to be a natural water course or spring, on S side of which ground level rises again in a terrace of karst. The N side of the ridge is bordered by a marshy basin occupied by Lough Narath, which lies c. 350m to NW. Roughly oval area (c. 38m NE–SW; 27m NW–SE) defined by a low-profile, moss-covered stone bank (Wth 1-2m; H 0.3m). The stone bank is most clearly visible at NW–NE and at SE–SW. It is barely discernible at ENE–SE, and at W. A property wall, on a N–S axis, cuts across the W end of the enclosure. A moss-covered stony area in the E half of the level interior is probably a seam of bedrock. A levelled field boundary, on a NE–SW axis, abuts the enclosing wall at NE, and another remnant of a field boundary extending to W for c. 40m from the SW end of the enclosure. There is an enclosure (DG104-017----) 150m to W, and two other enclosures (DG104-014----; DG104-015----) c. 250m to SW. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 18 May 2015
