Enclosure in Simmonstown

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Enclosure in Simmonstown is a ghost in Simmonstown, Kildare, not a ruin but an absence shaped like a room. The land holds no stone, no ditch, no broken wall, only a faint difference in growth that appears when photographed from above. It sits beside a castle and another enclosure, as if the area once contained more than one kind of boundary. The horses still pass over it, unaware that the ground beneath them remembers a shape people stopped seeing.
Visible on a GSI aerial photograph (W 467-6) as the cropmark of a possible enclosure. On level pasture in a stud farm c. 200m W of a castle (KD011-016----) and c. 250m SW of a possible enclosure (KD011-030----). No visible surface traces survive.
