Enclosure in Scarteen (dunkerron South By.)

Within a field system (KE083-023002-) in rough hill grazing on the S-facing slopes of Knockleama with a view across the valley of the Blackwater River to Kenmare Bay. A circular area (7.5m E-W; 7m N-S) defined by a roughly built, partially collapsed drystone wall (T 0.6m; H 0.7m). The interior, partially obscured by rushes and sloping gently down to the S, is raised (H 0.3m) at S and is cut into the upslope (D 0.2m) at N. A hut site (KE083-023021-) is within and an enclosure (KE083-023022-) is c. 15m to the NNE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
