Enclosure in Raheen

There is no trace of the single-ringed enclosure marked on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map. It was situated on the S slope of the valley of the River Erne. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Described in 1946 as 'West of the fort (DG107-061) and distant 100 feet from the outer bank, is the remians of a small D-shaped enclosure, some 60' long and 40' wide. The banks are low and wide and very ill-defined. From this enclosure a depression leads towards the fort (DG107-061). West of the field wall this is shallow and ill-defined, but east of the field wall it is deeper and clearly defined; it penetrates the outer bank of the fort and leads into the outer fosse. All the area of the fort within the outer bank is almost completely overgrown by furze, hazel, blackthorn &c. which made detalied examination difficult'(Corlett 2006, 58-9).
