Enclosure in Knockaneyouloo

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Located in pastureland on the SW slopes of Mount Foley, this site survives as a slightly raised platform, 8.2m x 6.8m, outlined by a gapped circle of large boulders. Not marked on the OS maps, it is known locally as a 'fort'. The stone of the enclosing wall was removed in the 1950s. A Man-made underground passage (KE070-004001-) reputedly exists at the site (local information). The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 825. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 29 July 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
