Kilcurley fort stood at the heart of the townland when surveyors walked Offaly in the 1830s, yet no exact marker remains for it today. That absence does not diminish the place; it redirects attention to the field itself, the buried line of its bank and the lives that moved around it. An enclosure is not a vague idea. It is a boundary drawn by human hands, made to include, exclude and be remembered.

Unlocated monument within the townland of Kilcurley. Kilcurley fort is mentioned in the OS Field Name Books of Offaly from 1837-40 (OSFNB Vol. 2, 511). Described as an 'ancient fort' that is located in the centre of the townland of Kilcurley. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
