What is recorded here

Kill is a subrectangular enclosure in Kilcullen South, mapped at fifty-six metres by twenty-nine metres with a low earthen bank on three sides and a scarp to the north. It stands in pasture above a sharp fall of ground, slopes gently downward, and may contain a man-made underground passage in its northern half. A landowner told O Nualláin it had been used as a burial place, and it may form the eastern half of a larger early ecclesiastical enclosure. The name kill still belongs to the field and the marked ground within it.

In pasture, above sharp fall of ground to N and E. Subrectangular area (56m N-S; 29m E-W) enclosed by low earthen bank (max. int. H 1.25m) to S, E and W; scarp to N. Interior slopes gently down to N; possible Man-made underground passage (CO061-017003-) in N half; S half bisected by scarp which crosses interior on E-W axis. According to Hartnett (1939, 192), enclosure and field in which it stands both known as 'kill'. O Nualláin (1988, 251) was informed by landowner 'that this had been used as a burial place'. Appears to form E half of possible early ecclesiastical enclosure (9204). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
