What is recorded here
Kilcorney is a crowded ancestral landscape where several enclosures, houses and burial cairns still mark repeated human use across the plateau. The smaller enclosure sits inside a larger subrectangular one, its curved bank and internal boulder walls preserving the shape of an old domestic or ritual area. It is not a lonely ruin but a room within a much older house of fields, memories and repeated return.
On a gentle N-facing slope on a plateau, with the slope increasing immediately to the N, within a larger subrectangular enclosure (CL009-021034-) and within an extensive multiperiod field system (CL009-021001-). A subcircular area (int. dims. 21.5m E–W; 20.5m N–S; ext. dims. c. 17.4m N–S; 16.5m E–W) defined by a bank (Wth 2–2.6m; int. H 0.5–1.1m- ext. H 0.2–0.4m) which survives SE–NW; elsewhere a later field boundary overlies the perimeter. In the interior there are two walls, each a simple line of boulders (Wth c. 0.6m; H c. 0.3m): one wall (L c. 8m) extends SE from near the centre to the perimeter, and the other wall (L c. 13m) abuts the S side of the first, and curves across the enclosure to the SW. A house site (CL009-021035-) has been identified in the interior.
Among the numerous enclosures, houses, hut sites and cairns in this vicinity, dating from prehistoric to post-medieval periods (Grant 2010, 47), there is an enclosure (CL009-021025-) c. 75m to the NW; within it are a prehistoric house (CL009-021021-) and burial cairn (CL009-021020-).
