Enclosure in Hobartstown West

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Hobartstown West holds a circular enclosure forty-five metres across, its ditch still visible through crop growth beside a church mark. The circle sits inside a larger southern trace and beside a rectangular western field, suggesting a settled landscape rather than a single isolated event. People may have lived, worshipped or worked within those lines before the earth forgot their names.
Aerial photograph (CUCAP AYL 59) shows a cropmark of small circular enclosure defined by fosse (est. max diam. c. 45m), surrounding cropmark of church (KD038-033001-). Traces of a larger enclosure at the S and rectangular enclosure defined by two fosses and possible bank at W (see field system KD038-033003-). Date of upload: 15 September 2016
