Enclosure in Drumcaw (trough By.)

Situated towards the top of the E-facing slope of a N-S drumlin ridge, overlooking Drumcaw Lough, which is c. 300m to the E. It is not depicted on any edition of the OS 6-inch map but is visible as a cropmark enclosure (diam. c. 35m) defined by a fosse feature SW-N-SE which is incorporated into a field bank elsewhere on aerial photographs (GSIAP: H 269/270) from the 1970s. It is depicted as a small enclosure with a house on the 1834 edition, and as a kink in the field bank on the 1907 edition of the map. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
