Enclosure in Darrary

Enclosure

What is recorded here

In pasture, on a S-facing slope in an area of undulating farmland. A possible oval enclosure is visible as the cropmark of a fosse SSE-N in an aerial photograph (CUCAP, AVL 50) taken in 1968. Visible in the same photograph are traces of another cropmark of a fosse NNE-S, immediately to the NE which may represent another possible enclosure or an annexe. There are no visible remains of any enclosure. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
