Enclosure in Cuilleen (moycarn By.)

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Enclosure in Cuilleen (moycarn By.) is an enclosure in Cuilleen (moycarn By.), County Roscommon, Ireland. It contains a church and rectangular building within a D-shaped grass and scrub-covered area measuring roughly 40m north-south and 20m east-west. The enclosure is defined by relict field banks extending north and south from the structures, with additional banks curving northeast and running east-west. A house stands about 20m east of the church, outside the enclosure boundary.
Situated on a shelf with slightly higher ground to the N. The church (RO054-011001-) and adjacent rectangular building (RO054-011002-) are within a D-shaped grass and scrub-covered enclosure (dims c. 40m N-S; c. 20m E-W) defined by relict field banks extending N (L c. 10m), and S (L c. 60m) from the structures together with a bank curving N-E, and an E-W bank, but this is probably just one quadrant of a larger enclosure. A house (RO054-011004-) is c. 20m E of the church, and outside the enclosure. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
