What is recorded here
In July 1990, Dr. Gillian Barrett flew over Castleroe East and found a forgotten oval enclosure holding a plough-levelled ringfort. The soil still shadows the old fosse and internal divisions, proving the land remembers shapes long erased from human memory.
First recorded in July 1990 by Dr. Gillian Barrett in the course of an aerial photographic survey. Aerial photograph (GB90.BT.35) shows cropmark of a large oval enclosure defined by a fosse surrounding the plough-levelled ringfort (KD037-049----) Traces of internal subdivisions are also visible within the large enclosure. Also visible in a 1995 aerial photograph (GB95.FT.13). (Barrett 2002, 1-30: Fig.3; ibid 2006, 69-95: Plate 3.5)
