What is recorded here

Enclosure in Castlegal (carbury By., Glencar Ed) is an enclosure in Castlegal (carbury By., Glencar Ed), County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies a prominent rise on the west slopes of Cope's Mountain, where a low broad bank of earth and rubble limestone surrounds an oval area. A poorly defined western break marks the original entrance, while a cross slab and standing stone remain near the structure.
Situated on a locally prominent rise on a slight S-facing slope, in elevated mountain pasture, on the W slopes of Cope's Mountain. Oval area (5.6m E-W; 4.65m N-S) enclosed by a very low, broad bank (Wth 2m; int. H 15m) of earth and rubble limestone. A poorly defined break (Wth 0.7m) in the bank at W appears to mark the position of the original entrance. A slight roughly oval hollow (2.75m N-S; 2.55m E-W) of uncertain significance is located against the inner face of the bank at NNE defined by a low earth and stone bank (Wth 1.15m; int. H 0.3m) at SW-NW, by the bank of the enclosure at NW-NE and by a slight inward facing scarp at NE-SW. A cross slab (SL009-062002-) is located immediately to the SSW of the hollow to S of centre within the enclosure. A standing stone (SL009-062003-) is located at the external base of the bank of the enclosure at N. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 21 April 2011
