What is recorded here

Tomdarragh and Ballyellin in County Carlow hold a forgotten circular enclosure, perhaps a ringfort, now invisible beneath the soil. Maps from 1839 and 1908 captured its ghost before modern fields erased the last visible trace. The land keeps its shape in memory rather than stone, inviting imagination to complete what time removed.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Shown on 1839 'OS 6-inch' map as circular enclosure (max. diam. c. 50m). The 1908 OS 6" map shows NE quadrant of raised circular area defined at S and W by field boundaries and hachures from N to E, with trees. No visible surface traces. Possibly a ringfort.
