Enclosure in Ballyconnoe North

In pasture on the Burren plateau, within a multiperiod field system (CL005-108001-). Hachured on the 1842 and 1920 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. A subrectangular enclosure (int. dims. 34.2m NNW–SSE; 26.7m ENE–WSW) defined by drystone walls. The wall on the E side (Wth 1.6m; H 1m) is double-faced and robust but along the S, W and N sides is a simple drystone wall. The W side (Wth 1.5m; H 0.5m) is much collapsed but is the only wall with evidence of horizontally laid stones. The N side is reduced to a grassed-over stone spread (Wth 3.5m; H 0.3-0.6m). The S part of the interior is slightly lower than the rest. There are several grass-covered spoil mounds in the N part. Compiled by: Conn Herriott and Olive Alcock Date of upload: 15 October 2021
