Enclosure in Ballincurra (smallcounty By.)

Enclosure

What is recorded here

In rough wet pasture, to the immediate E of a watercourse which also marks a townland boundary with Ballynamona. Ditch-barrow (LI032-271002-) and earthwork (LI032-271003-) lie 120m to ENE and ESE respectively. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Monument identified by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 234: AP 5/2018) as a rectangular-shaped earthwork in the NW corner of a field. Levelled monument is visible as a faint trace of a rectangular-shaped cropmark (20m E-W; 15m N-S) in NW corner of field, as seen on OSi orthoimage taken 2005-2012, on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimage 04/04/2013. A larger rectangular-shaped area (22m NNW-SSE; 21m ENE-WSW) is defined by two linear cropmarks enclosing the N and E sides of a rectangular-shaped area in the SW corner of the adjoining field to N and is likely to be a continuation of this monument. See attached Google Earth orthoimage and Bruff aerial survey image labelled 234 Compiled by: Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly Date of upload: 22 November 2020
