Embanked enclosure

Earthwork

What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is an earthwork in Moyglass (ballintober North By., Ballygarden Ed), County Roscommon, Ireland. The 1837 Ordnance Survey mapped a semi-circular bank about fifteen metres across on a low landscape, but that shape has vanished into reclaimed pasture. A rath stands one hundred and forty metres to the south, while the enclosure itself has become invisible under grass and farm use.
Marked as a semi-circular earthen bank (diam. c. 15m) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a low-lying landscape. It is not visible at ground level in reclaimed pasture. Rath (RO023-089----) is c. 140m to the S. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
