What is recorded here
Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 70m) in woodland only on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated just off the S-facing crest at the E end of a W-E spur of Slievebaun. This is an oval enclosure (dims. 59m N–S; 49m E–W) within a coniferous forest defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2–3m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.5–1m), with an external V-shaped fosse (Wth 2m; D 0.3m). There is no visible entrance. It is visible on the OSI series of aerial photographs (2005) where the trees have been removed and it is bisected by an E-W forestry road. It remains unplanted in the renewed forest (Bing images 2011). Rath (WX005-031----) is c. 200m to the E.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
