What is recorded here
Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Lissalway, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies the crest of a broad north-west to south-east ridge and presents a circular grass-covered area measuring thirty-nine metres east-west and thirty-five point seven metres north-south. An earthen bank and flat-bottomed fosse define the perimeter, while traces of an outer bank remain visible along the north-west and north-east sections. A fragment of a relict roadway also crosses the interior towards the eastern edge.
On the crest of a broad NW-SE ridge. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 39m E-W; 35.7m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.5-3.4m generally to 8m at E; int. H 0.2-0.3m; ext. H 0.5-0.7m) WNW-N-ESE reduced to a scarp (H 0.6m) elsewhere, and a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 10-13m; Wth of base 3.5m at E to 10m at W; D 0.1-0.3m) SW-N-ESE with traces of an outer bank (Wth 5m; ext. H 0.1m) NW-NE. There is no identifiable original entrance, but a fragment of a relict NNW-SSE roadway (Wth 4.5m) overlies the interior towards the perimeter at E (max. ext. diam. 62m E-W).
