What is recorded here
Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Corracoggil North, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a circular grass-covered area on the south-facing slope of a broad ridge, bounded by an overgrown earthen bank and an outer fosse. Five entrances cut through the bank at different points, while traces of facing stones remain at the east and west edges. A quarry removed part of the fosse between the north-northwest and east-northeast, leaving a field bank running through the gap.
On the S-facing slope of a broad WNW-ESE ridge. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 40m N-S; 39m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 3.4-5.6m; int. H 0.9-1.2m; ext. H 1.4-1.7m) with traces of inner and outer facing stones at E and W, and an outer fosse (Wth of top 5.2-6.6m; Wth of base 3.5-4.7m; D 0.3-0.4m) which has been removed NNW-ENE by a quarry. There are entrances (Wth c. 2m) at N, NE, SSE, SW and WNW, and a NNE-SSW field bank runs through the fosse at E.
