What is recorded here
Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Coolfree, County Roscommon, Ireland. The 1837 Ordnance Survey 6-inch map marked a circular embanked enclosure with an external diameter of about 35m on a slight north-facing slope. Improved pasture now hides the earthworks from ground-level view, though the site was probably a rath.
Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) only on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a slight N-facing slope. It is not visible at ground level in improved pasture but it was probably a rath.
