Embanked enclosure

Marked as an oval embanked or moated enclosure (ext. dims. c. 40m NE-SW; c. 30m NW-SE) on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a level landscape in the E foothills of Sievecoiltia. This is a raised, rectangular, grass-covered area (dims. c. 35m N-S; c. 30m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 1.3-1.5m) with a moat (Wth of top 6-8m; ext. D 0.3-1m) and outer bank (Wth 3-4m; H c. 0.2m) on the E and S sides. It is truncated by a NE-SW field bank at N and does not survive N of this feature. An old stream bed is adjacent to the SE.
