What is recorded here
Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1900, having full-height canted bays and glazed entrance porch to front (north) elevation and garage to east elevation. Hipped slate roof with projecting eaves, roughcast rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with smooth rendered plinth. Square-headed window openings having cut limestone sills and one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed door opening set in porch having half-glazed leaded stained glass door with overlight. Cast-iron gates with rendered boundary walls and cast-iron railings to front of site.
This house is a fine example of the quality and style of housing which was built in this area as the city spread west to form a new fashionable suburb. In common with most houses along College Road, it is set back from the streetline, to allow for front gardens, which would not have been possible in the city proper. It is one of the few detached houses on College Road, most taking the form of pairs or terraces. The canted bay windows, one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows and stained glazed timber panelled door are typical features of its time. The fine cast-iron gates and railings add to its setting and context.
