Edward I, Henry III, Eleanor of Castile, and Eleanor of Provence grey plaque

This grey commemorative plaque records: Edward I and his much loved Princess, Eleanor of Castile, enjoyed their young days with his parents, King Henry III and Queen Eleanor of Provence in Guildford Castle. This sundial was presented to the people of Guildford by the Prudential Assurance Company Ltd. and the Borough Council in 1972. Forged in aluminium at the Quinnel Forge, Leatherhead, it was concieved and designed by Ann Garland (1912 - 1979) in whose memory this plaque was erected by the foregoing, by the Guildford Society and by her family Recorded plaque organisation: Guildford Society.

King Edward I of England (reigned 1272-1307) was a prominent medieval monarch known for his legal reforms and conquests, including Wales; King Henry III of England (reigned 1216-1272) was Edward's father and a key figure in the development of English royal administration; Queen Eleanor of Castile (d. 1290), wife to Edward I, was influential at court and known for her support of her husband’s military campaigns; Queen Eleanor of Provence (c. 1223-1291) was Henry III's queen consort, who played a significant role in the politics of her time and was a patron of literature.
