Edinburgh Castle, Palace Yard, is a medieval square in the City of Edinburgh, Scotland, where the castle's oldest open space still stands beneath its walls. It is not a display hall or a modern invention. It is the yard the castle swallowed whole, the flat place where soldiers, servants and visitors moved before the towers rose around them.
