Mills Mount Battery stands inside Edinburgh Castle as an 18th Century gun platform, built when castle walls still answered naval threats rather than tourist cameras. The battery no longer fires, but its shape preserves the moment Edinburgh stopped being only a town and became a warning aimed outward.
